Crypto guides

Short, honest explanations. Then test your risk awareness.

01

What is a blockchain?

A blockchain is a shared record of transactions copied across thousands of computers. Nobody can quietly change past entries, because every copy would disagree.

Bitcoin was the first; Ethereum added programs ("smart contracts") that run on the chain.

02

Wallets and keys

A wallet holds the secret key that controls your coins. Whoever has the key — or the 12/24-word recovery phrase — owns the funds.

Never type your recovery phrase into a website or share it with "support". Write it down offline.

03

Exchanges vs. self-custody

Keeping coins on an exchange is convenient but means trusting that company. Self-custody puts you in control, and makes you responsible for backups.

Use exchanges registered with your local regulator.

04

Why prices swing so much

Crypto trades 24/7 with less liquidity than stock markets. Drops of 50% or more have happened many times.

Only put in money you could afford to lose entirely.

05

How to spot a scam

Red flags: guaranteed returns, payouts in 24–72 hours, rewards for recruiting friends, pressure to deposit quickly, and "withdrawal fees" before you can cash out.

Real investments never guarantee profit. Check a firm's registration with your securities regulator before sending anything.

06

Taxes and records

In many countries selling, swapping or spending crypto is a taxable event. Keep a record of what you paid and when — the Portfolio page can help.
